Wavell Heights State School is situated in a quiet, out of the way
position in Wavell Heights. It is within walking distance of the major
commercial and retail areas of Chermside.
The school opened in 1948 following the post war expansion of
Brisbane into the Northern Suburbs. Through the 50's and 60's Wavell
Heights State School grew to become a large primary school with almost
900 students. Through the 70's and 80's enrolments gradually declined as
children grew up and moved to High School. By the mid 90's enrolments
had dropped to around 210. Over the past 10 years there has been a
significant demographic shift in the area. Young families have been
buying into the suburb and with this the school has enjoyed renewed
enrolment growth.
As a result we enjoy the facilities and resources of a large school
yet can offer the individual care and attention possible in a smaller,
family oriented school.
